Imagination is the Essence of Life…

blue lagoon (2).jpeg

Once upon a time there was a little girl,

who was born on a magical island, in the city of Horta. She lived there for several years. Her grandmother, who lived in a village on the other side of the island, would visit her frequently. The grandmother would sit and tell her stories, fairytales of princesses, of good and evil. These stories became part of the girl’s imagination. When her grandmother died, the girl kept the stories in her mind.

Time passed, and the girl grew up and went to live in a faraway land.

Her life was sprinkled with challenges and triumphs, which eventually led to the publication of a special book of her grandmother’s stories. And finally, like a princess in a fairytale, a happy ending.

Storytelling through a child’s imagination.

Conceicao has shared her grandmother’s stories with her children and grandchildren, keeping the storytelling tradition alive in her family.

Above is a drawing from her granddaughter, Sophie, as she imagined the princess with the “Wooden Dress.” Sophie believed it was a “square” instead of a “squire,” and thought the princess was marrying a “square.”
